In 1986 Zhejiang Geely Holding Group was founded. In 1997 Geely set its sights on the automobile industry. The following years saw Geely focusing its attention on technological innovation and personnel training.
Today Geely has a complete sales network comprised of nearly 1’000 4S dealers and nearly 1’000 service stations in China, with over 500 international sales and service outlets.
The Geely portfolio consists of more than 30 complete vehicle models with a full range of engines from 1.3 L to 2.4 L, as well as matching manual/automatic transmissions.
Geelys Automobile Technology Center and Automobile Research Institutes in Hangzhou and Linhai of Zhejiang Province have built up a strong capacity to develop complete vehicles, engines, transmissions and automotive electronics. Tens of millions of Yuan have been invested to establish the only key laboratory of automobile safety technology with the ability to do crash tests based on NCAP regulations for all automobile models under the systems of China and EU. The Geely GC2/GX2, Emgrand 7, and Emgrand 8 all independently developed by Geely, received five-star ratings from C-NCAP. In addition, the Emgrand 7 also received a four-star rating from E-NCAP and is China’s first car to achieve such a high evaluation level from a European safety evaluation agency, marking it a milestone in safety technology improvement of the automobile industry of China. In July 2012, Emgrand X7, the first SUV of Geely was given a “super five-star” rating with a high score of 50.3 from C-NCAP. It is the first made-in-China car that won such a rating. The Emgrand X7 ranks 4th among 172 cars subjected to C-NCAP tests by June 2012, outdoing many cars made under international joint ventures.
With over 8,000 patents, including over 1,000 invention patents and over 40 international patents, Geely is listed as “Top 10 Brands of Independent Intellectual Property Innovation of Chinese Enterprises” and honored as “corporate technical center” at state level, “post-doctoral workstation”, and “high-tech enterprise”. Geely’s project “Innovative Engineering Construction of Technological System for Strategic Transformation of Geely” won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Awards in 2009 (the first prize was vacant that year). Another project “R&D and Industrialization of Safety Technology of Geely Passenger Cars” won the first prize of Automobile Industrial Science and Technology Awards of China. Geely has over 18,000 employees, including over 2,300 engineers and technicians, three academicians, hundreds of foreign experts, over 30 registered doctors, over 500 masters, hundreds of senior engineers and researcher-level senior engineers. Among them, 5 were listed in the “Recruitment Program of Global Experts” of China, which makes Geely the private enterprise having the most high-level talents listed in the “Recruitment Program of Global Experts”.
Guided by the quality policy of “being responsible for brands and satisfying customers forever”, Geely has passed the certification systems such as ISO9000 quality system, TS16929: 2009 quality management system, ISO14001 environmental management system, ISO/IEC27001:2005 information security management system andOHSAS18001 occupational health and safety management system.
